ALso, it could be you have reached the max caching limit on the motherboard which has 64MB on it. If it is a physical hard drive that is skipping then likely the drive is failing as mentioned previously. Since I switched to a daily build that was back in February it totally eliminated the problem for me. They address the skipping issue with iFlash/MicroSDs that may occur. They are not in the current release build. There were a few iFlash issues with Rockbox which have been addressed in the daily builds from several months back. If you are using Rockbox then I would strongly recommend going to one of the more current daily builds.

In Windows, I use AOMEI partition assistant to do this which is free software. The master boot record must be rebuilt and then the partition deleted and recreated to FAT32.
